Rebecca Rath: In Season

13 June - 26 July 2015

Rebecca Rath’s contemporary drawing practice is gestural, experimental and layered. It is evidence of a journey of searching and discovering. It is about finding her mark; her handwriting style.

A casual conversation with highly regarded Australian artist Judy Cassab about 15 years ago started Hunter artist Rebecca Rath’s search to find her mark making signature.

Judy told her, “You need to find your hand writing style”. Consequently Rebecca embarked on a journey of discovery that has seen her most recently take up a residency in Italy where she completed large scale gestural contemporary drawings based on the local produce and ceramics of the area.

On her return to Australia, Rebecca continued her focus on creating large scale gestural contemporary drawings, this time of flowers. Together the drawings created in Italy and subsequently in Australia have come together in Rebecca’s newest exhibition In Season. A visual feast.
