An important aspect of both the Muswellbrook Shire Art Collection and the Max Watters Collection is the inclusion of local artists' works. Max Watters has been adding local's art works to his Collection for many years as part of his endeavour to not only collect the beautiful and significant but to also support the local art scene and to encourage individual artists. Included in the exhibition "Grass Roots" are works by Charles Blandford and Viola Bromley, along with a new works such as "Mt. Timms' by Murrurundi artist Jean Davies, acquired from her recent exhibition at the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre.
"It is more than just a collection of art works, it is a history of the Upper Hunter, a record of the changing tastes and desires of the residents, it's also my history, my fifty five years as a collector, my life as an artist and as a human being"
(Max Watters OAM in conversation with Arts Centre Manager, Brad Franks).
