Opening 6.00pm 19 September 2015
Exhibiting from 20 September to 01 November 2015
The Muswellbrook Shire Art Collection has amassed an impressive collection of drawings since 1965 when an acquisitive prize for Works on Paper, initially known as the Drawing Prize, was added to the Muswellbrook Art Prize. Hungarian born artist Imre Szigeti won the Drawing Prize in that year with his work Fugue, and so became the first drawing to enter the Shire Collection.
The Muswellbrook Art Prize, Works on Paper Prize has been the primary method by which drawings have been acquired for the collection with works by Suzanne Archer, Marion Borgelt, Peter Griffen, Janet Dawson and Jane Lander to name a few entering the collection in this manner. This has been complemented with donations by benefactors and artists - that has seen the works of Brett Whiteley and Vladas Meskenas acquired - as well as through the Australian Government's Cultural Gifts Program - with works by Dagmar Cyrulla and Judy Cassab becoming a part of the collection.
Exhibiting from 20 September to 1 November 2015. Opening night 6pm Saturday, 19 September 2015 with refreshments courtesy of Stone Hill Vineyard - Merriwa, Fordwich Estate, Artiste Espresso Bar, Hunter Belle Cheese and Pukara Estate.
