Muswellbrook Local Art Awards 2013

02 Nov - 19 Dec 2013

Muswellbrook Local Art Awards for 2013 is an annual event highlighting the depth and talent of the Upper Hunter Region’s extraordinary creativity. With prize money totalling $5,000.00 spread across five categories over 150 entries have arrived at the Arts Centre this week from artists based in Muswellbrook, Singleton and Upper Hunter Shires, making the task of this year’s judge Dr John Barnes, Director of Cessnock Regional Art Gallery, very difficult indeed.

Each of the five sections has three prizes: first, second and an encouragement prize, the encouragement prize being for the work by an artist with promise. The prize monies have been provided by this year’s sponsors: BHP Billiton Mt Arthur Coal, Elks Enterprises Pty. Ltd., Hunter Valley Printing, Max Watters OAM, Muswellbrook & Districts Camera Club, Scone ADFAS Inc., The Estate of Isabel Esther Bellis and The Viola Bromley Bequest. The prize for first place in each section is $500.00, second prize is $300.00 and the encouragement prizes are $200.00. The art works can also be for sale, so the exhibition is a great opportunity to not only appreciate the artistic endeavours of our local artists but to also support them by taking a work into your home. For the artists there is no greater acclaim than to have someone want to live with their creation.

There are no themes to the Awards but the five sections are primarily focused around different media with sections for painting including acrylics and oils on canvas or hardboard; works on paper which encompasses watercolours, drawings and printmaking such as etching or silkscreen; 3D which includes both ceramics and sculpture; photography and a youth section for young people aged from 12 to 18 years and can be in any media, even film or animation.
