Olympian-Athletics

Melissa is a track and field athlete who has represented Australia eight times in sprint events.
Melissa was the 100m champion in the Australian Grand Prix series in 1991 and ran both the 200m and the sprint relay at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

The lure of competing in a home Olympics drew her back into full training, and that move came to fruition at the Sydney Olympic trials. Her performance in the 100 metres at the trials, finishing fourth in the final, was enough to secure her a place in the 4x100m relay team for the Games. It was a dream come true for Medlicott, a born and bred Sydneysider.

Melissa’s athletics career highlights include:

  • 2000 Sydney Olympics 4x100m
  • 1992 Barcelona Olympics – 200m, Finalist 4x100m
  • 1991 World Championships Tokyo – Finalist 4x100m
  • 1991 World University Games – Sheffield 200m 5th final, 100m 9th
  • 1986 World Juniors – Greece – 100m

Melissa is married to her coach, Robert Medlicott. Away from athletics she is a primary school teacher with a Bachelor of Arts, a Diploma of Education and a Diploma of Marketing. She is the mother of Tom, 6, and Mia, 4.

She enjoys ocean fishing with her father, travel and crafts.
