Archibald Prize finalist Carla Fletcher hosting Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre "Artist in Residence" project between 20 May and 04 June 2012.

Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre will be hosting its first ever Artist In Residence project in 2012. Carla Fletcher, Melbourne artist will be in residence in Muswellbrook from 20th May til the 4th of June this year.

Carla has a strong interest in landscape, portraiture and animal studies. She was a finalist in the 2010 Archibald Prize a prestigious and recognised position for any artist.

Carla visited Muswellbrook for the opening of the Archibald Prize showing in November 2010 and spoke at the opening and then did an artist’s talk the following day.

During her residency Carla will be spending her time mostly researching the local landscape and land use and working up some preparatory sketches in the studio space set aside by Muswellbrook Shire Council for her in shop 13-14 Campbell’s Corner.

She will also be visiting several local schools to visit year 11 and 12 students to discuss her career as an artist the highs and lows of being a full time artist and also advise for the students on their works and their career prospects.

Her last formal appointment whilst in Muswellbrook will be a public “debrief” to be held at the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre on Friday 1st June 2012.

Carla will use this opportunity to reflect on what she has seen during her residency and provide commentary on her work.
