Over 150 people crowded the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre on Saturday evening to find out who were the winners of the Muswellbrook Local Art Awards for 2013.
The Awards are an annual event highlighting the depth and talent of the Upper Hunter Region’s extraordinary creativity with prize money totalling $5,000.00 spread across five categories. This year’s judge Dr John Barnes, Director of Cessnock Regional Art Gallery, said that the quality of entries was very high indeed and with 158 works vying for the Awards Dr Barnes found himself with a very difficult task last Saturday.
Unfortunately Dr Barnes was not well last week and so we thank him for making the journey up the Valley to adjudicate the Prizes, he was unable to stay for the Opening Night ceremonies and so Arts Centre Education Officer Roger Skinner read from the notes about the winning works which Dr Barnes had kindly prepared. The exhibition was officially opened by Muswellbrook Shire Councillor Jennifer Lecky who also commented on the wonderful quality of the artwork on display and on the depth of talent across the Upper Hunter Region.
