The Muswellbrook Local Art Awards are an annual competition which offers local artists from Muswellbrook, Singleton, and Upper Hunter Shires the opportunity to show off the cream of their work from the past twelve months. Entries close 06 October 2017.

Conditions of entry

Eligibility

  1. Entry is open to all artists currently residing in the Muswellbrook, Singleton and Upper Hunter Shires.
  2. Entry to the Muswellbrook Local Aboriginal Art Prize is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists currently residing in the Muswellbrook, Singleton and Upper Hunter Shires.
  3. Entrants in the Esther Bellis Youth Prize must be aged between 12 and 18 years of age inclusive at time of entry..

Entry

  1. Artists are limited to three entries per prize.
  2. Entries shall be addressed to the “Muswellbrook Local Art Awards” and are to be delivered at the expense of the entrant to the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre on or before the relevant date.
  3. An entry fee of $20.00 for each work submitted to the Viola Bromley Painting Prize, Garry Philp Works on Paper, Local 3D Prize and Local Photography Prize, or $15.00 for each work submitted to the Esther Bellis Youth Prize and Local Aboriginal Art Prize must accompany the entry form. Fees include GST.

Submitted Work

  1. Works must not have been previously shown at the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre.
  2. Works must be the original work of the entrant.
  3. Works must have been completed by October 2017.
  4. Medium may include, but are not restricted to, paintings, relief, collage, works on paper (drawings, etchings, linocuts, silkscreens, woodblocks, watercolours etc.), ceramics, sculpture (glass, fibre, casts, constructed, carved etc.) or photography.
  5. All works and packaging must have attached in a secure manner, a label with the artist’s name, address, contact details, title of work, date of execution, medium and sale price (if applicable).
  6. Works must be ready for hanging. Framed works must be supplied with D-rings or cup hooks. Unframed works must be left unmounted for pinning directly to the wall.
  7. Size limits do apply. No work is to measure more than 200cm on any side or exceed 20cm in depth, including the frame. Weight shall not exceed 25kg. A three-dimensional work may consist of more than one part but the work must not exceed an overall measurement of 75cm om any direction and an overall weight of 25kg.
  8. Works entered may be for sale. If sold a commission of 30% will be charged on the final sale price listed on the entry form, therefore include any relevant agent fees and commissions, and GST if required. An ABN or “Statement by a Supplier” form (visit www.ato.gov.au) must be provided or the works will not be considered for sale.

Adjudication & Payment of Prizes

  1. The decisions of the Adjudicator shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding such decisions.

Delivery of Work

  1. Artworks must be delivered during opening hours to the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre by the relevant date.
  2. Artists are expected to pay all charges involved in the despatch of works to and return from Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre. All artists shall arrange adequate insurance for their works in transit to and from Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre.

Exhibition of Work

  1. The greatest possible care will be taken of all works submitted for the duration of the exhibition, but no liability will be accepted by the Muswellbrook Shire Council for the loss or damage of any entry. Works shall at all times be at the risk of the entrant.
  2. Every effort will be made to exhibit all entries, however, Muswellbrook Shire Council will not be bound to exhibit any entry. The exhibition of works shall be at the absolute discretion of Council, which may take into account the recommendation of the Adjudicator. No reasons will be given or communication entered into with regard to the Adjudicator’s recommendation or the Council’s decision.
  3. Council reserves the right to alter the work’s hanging system to suit the Arts Centre’s hanging system.

Copyright

  1. Artists must allow their artwork to be reproduced by print and electronic media for the purposes of advertising and promotion of the Muswellbrook Local Art Awards. All necessary acknowledgements of authorship will be duly made. Copyright of the work will remain the property of the artist.

Collection of Work

  1. At the close of the exhibition unsold works must be collected during opening hours by the artist or their agent by no later than the relevant date. Unless arrangements have been made for the return of unsold works at the end of the exhibition, Council will return same, at the expense of the artist by a carrier of the Council’s choice.
